Rachel Braithwaite

Clinical Psychologist

About Me

I’m a registered Clinical Psychologist based in Melbourne. I’ve been working in private practice for the past eight years and also work as a fertility counsellor at an IVF clinic. Prior to this, I worked in both forensic and community settings, supporting individuals with a wide range of challenges. I am also a Board Approved Supervisor.

I’m skilled and experienced in Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP), and have been training in this specialised approach since 2017. I’m also a member of the Australian and New Zealand Infertility Counsellors Association (ANZICA). Currently, I work from a therapy room at Conscious Calm Psychology in Cheltenham on Thursdays and Saturdays and I also offer after-hours telehealth appointments.

I strive to create a safe, supportive, and welcoming space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings without judgement. I believe that a strong therapeutic relationship is essential for healing and personal growth — and my goal is to help you feel seen and understood throughout your journey.

In line with ISTDP principles, I encourage clients to gently confront their emotional experiences and identify the deeper patterns that may be contributing to their distress. By fostering emotional insight and expression, therapy can help you break free from old cycles and move toward greater resilience, clarity, and connection.

I tailor my approach to suit each individual, drawing on what’s most helpful at each stage of the process. My focus is always on building a trusting alliance and working together in a way that supports lasting and meaningful change.
